Cellular Resilience: How Your Daily Choices Shape the Way You Age
Long before the body gives us a diagnosis, something may already be changing beneath the surface.
A cell responds differently. Inflammation persists. Energy production shifts. A familiar symptom becomes easier to ignore than to investigate.
For Dr. Monisha Bhanote, these quiet changes are where some of the most interesting conversations about health begin.
Recently, Dr. Bhanote joined Julia Bradbury on the Julia Bradbury Podcast for a conversation about cellular health, pathology, brain injury, mitochondrial function, advanced testing, lifestyle medicine, and the everyday choices that influence how we age.
As a quintuple board-certified physician with three board certifications in pathology, Dr. Bhanote has spent decades examining individual cells under the microscope, distinguishing healthy cells from those beginning to show signs of disease.
That experience eventually inspired a different question:
What is happening before disease announces itself?
Today, that question sits at the heart of her philosophy of #CellCare—understanding the body at its most fundamental level and becoming more intentional about the conditions we create for our cells.

In This Episode, We Cover:
What Happens Before Disease Becomes Visible?
Dr. Bhanote has spent much of her career studying what disease looks like under a microscope.
But cellular change does not necessarily happen overnight.
During the conversation, she uses chronic reflux to illustrate how repeated irritation can lead to progressive changes in the cells lining the esophagus—from metaplasia to dysplasia and, in some cases, cancer.
The larger lesson is not about fearing every symptom.
It is about listening.
A recurring symptom may be information from the body worth understanding rather than something to continually overlook.
For Dr. Bhanote, this is where cellular awareness begins: becoming curious about what is happening beneath the symptom and how the environment surrounding our cells may be changing over time.
When Brain Health Became Personal
Dr. Bhanote understood cellular biology professionally long before she had to experience its complexity personally.
During the pandemic, a golf ball traveling approximately 150 miles per hour struck her in the temporal-parietal region of her head.
What followed changed nearly every aspect of her daily life.
She experienced difficulties with speech, writing, memory, balance, focus and energy, along with chronic pain from cervical disc herniations. It took years before she could comfortably return to the detailed microscope work that had defined much of her career.
Her recovery became an intensely personal exploration of the same biology she had spent decades studying.
Nutrition mattered.
Movement mattered.
Breathwork and meditation mattered.
Sleep mattered.
And understanding cellular energy became more important than ever.
Mitochondria Change the Conversation About Energy
When we think about energy, we usually think about whether we feel energetic.
Dr. Bhanote brings the conversation down to the cellular level.
Mitochondria help produce the energy cells need to carry out their functions. That distinction became especially meaningful during her recovery, when fatigue and reduced physical capacity were part of everyday life.
Her approach also incorporated nutrition and a highly personalized supplement regimen, including botanicals rooted in Ayurveda.
The podcast discusses bacopa monnieri, holy basil, and gotu kola alongside nutrients and compounds she used as part of her own recovery strategy. Dr. Bhanote and Bradbury are careful to emphasize that this does not mean everyone should take the same supplements; individual needs and responses differ.
Personalization matters more than simply adding more.
Test, Don't Guess
One phrase captures another major theme of the conversation:
Test, don't guess.
Dr. Bhanote's background as a clinical pathologist shapes her enthusiasm for understanding what is happening inside the body rather than relying entirely on assumptions.
In the episode, she discusses testing related to oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, inflammation, and the gut microbiome.
Testing, however, is not the destination.
Information becomes valuable when it helps us better understand our own biology and make thoughtful decisions about nutrition, movement, sleep, recovery, and other lifestyle factors.
This is a recurring theme throughout Dr. Bhanote's work:
Know your body.
Understand why an intervention matters.
Then make choices with greater intention.
From Self-Care to #CellCare
Near the end of the conversation, Dr. Bhanote offers one of the simplest explanations of her philosophy:
Your cells are constantly listening to what you are doing.
A meal is an input.
Sunlight is an input.
Movement is an input.
Even our conversations and everyday environments become part of the larger landscape our cells continually respond to.
This is the idea behind #CellCare.
It shifts the focus from occasional acts of self-care toward greater awareness of the conditions we repeatedly create within and around the body.
Dr. Bhanote's three practical takeaways reflect that philosophy: establish meaningful health information through testing, optimize the lifestyle factors within your control, and continue learning about your individual body.
The Philosophy Behind Travela Essentials
Dr. Bhanote's own recovery also became part of the story behind Travela Essentials.
At one stage, her personal regimen involved approximately 30 supplements. Combined with frequent international travel and the need to remain focused and energized while working, that approach became difficult to sustain.
She began thinking about something more streamlined.
Travela Essentials grew from that experience, combining what Dr. Bhanote calls botanical intelligence—drawing from traditions including Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine—with ingredients informed by modern longevity science.
In the podcast, she describes the formula through five areas: digestion, energy, immunity, focus, and recovery.
The philosophy extends beyond travel itself.
It is about creating intentional daily practices that can remain with us even when life becomes less predictable.
Final Thoughts
Perhaps the most memorable idea from the conversation is also the simplest:
Our cells are paying attention.
They respond to the food we eat, how we move, the quality of our sleep, periods of stress and stillness, and the environments we move through every day.
That does not mean health needs to become another pursuit of perfection.
It means there is value in becoming more aware of what we repeatedly ask of the body.
Dr. Bhanote's work invites us to look beneath the surface—to understand our biology, recognize patterns earlier, and become more intentional about the daily inputs surrounding cellular health.
That is the deeper meaning of #CellCare.
Self-care may be something we schedule.
Cell care is happening all the time.
