Evidence-based perspectives on gut health, longevity, travel wellness, and cellular health to help you thrive-every day and everywhere.
“Aging doesn’t begin with what you see in the mirror. It begins much deeper, in how well your cells are nourished, protected, and able to recover.”
— Dr. Monisha Bhanote, MD, FCAP, ABOIM
Not everything that supports our health needs to be new.
We live in a culture captivated by what comes next—the newest ingredient, intervention, technology, or promise of living better for longer. Yet after years of studying the human body, I often find the more compelling question is not what is new? but what continues to hold up when we look more closely?
That question takes us in several directions in this week’s Journal.
To amla, a fruit with centuries of Ayurvedic tradition behind it and a growing body of research ahead of it. To oxidative stress, where changes can be unfolding within our cells long before we see or feel their effects. And to resveratrol, whose story becomes far more interesting when we leave the red wine conversation behind and consider what happens when plant compounds meet the trillions of microbes living within us.
That idea—that so much of our health is shaped by what happens beneath the surface—is also deeply personal to me. In my conversation on the Awaken With Nathan Podcast, I share how recovering from a traumatic brain injury changed the way I understood resilience and the interconnected roles of the microbiome, nervous system, nourishment, breath, and awareness.
And then there are the quieter ways we care for ourselves: the restorative warmth of infrared light, something naturally sweet and nourishing from the kitchen, and experiences that create space to reconnect with the body beyond the demands of everyday life.
Perhaps this is what I find most compelling about longevity.
It is not simply the pursuit of more years. It is the accumulation of what we nourish, protect, and practice within those years.
#CellCare is not about doing everything. It is about understanding what matters—and caring for the body from that place.

FROM THE PHYSICIAN
Modern life asks a lot of the body. Travel, long days, changing routines, and everyday stress can all influence how well we digest, focus, produce energy, and recover. I created Travela Essentials around a simple idea: instead of waiting until we feel depleted, what if we supported the pathways that help us stay resilient every day? One intentional daily ritual, designed for the way we actually live.
