Evidence-based perspectives on gut health, longevity, travel wellness, and cellular health to help you thrive-every day and everywhere.
“The body is always listening. What we repeat becomes part of how we adapt, recover, and age.”
— Dr. Monisha Bhanote, MD, FCAP, ABOIM
Our bodies are remarkably responsive.
Every day, they are taking in information—from light and food to movement, thought, stress, sleep, and the environments we move through. Much of this happens quietly, without our conscious attention, yet these signals help shape how we feel, function, recover, and age.
This week’s Journal explores some of the more fascinating examples.
Why does flying east affect us differently than flying west? How can something produced by microbes in the gut influence the health of the heart? And what happens when a thought becomes something the nervous system—and ultimately the body—responds to?
These may seem like separate conversations, but that is precisely what makes the human body so extraordinary. Our biology is interconnected. The gut speaks to the brain. The brain influences the body. Our internal clock responds to the world around us.
I experienced this interconnectedness very personally after my traumatic brain injury. Recovery changed the way I understood resilience. It taught me to pay attention not only to symptoms, but to the conditions surrounding them: sleep, nourishment, movement, the microbiome, nervous system regulation, and the rhythms of everyday life.
That perspective continues to shape how I practice medicine and how I think about #CellCare.
Not as another thing we need to perfect, but as a way of becoming more attentive to what our bodies are responding to every day.
I hope this week’s stories leave you curious about your own.
